Yesterday was a BMD. Brain Melt Day. That’s the name for the days I feel so overwhelmed by everything on my desk that my brain won’t stop screaming at me/the universe and thus make it impossible to focus on anything. It’s a vicious cycle of stress, nonsense and refined sugars. So I skipped a day in our cover series instead of sending a bunch of gibberish into your inboxes.
BUT! I’m back today with a mostly functioning brain, and a bit of cover process, courtesy of megastar Jenny Frison!
Jenny’s initial sketch: “In this particular concept, there are three tears on the cover pulling back to show the same image from a different genre or era of romance (probably 50's, 60's and cowboy romance.)”
Would you look at that Archie vibe on the second sketch?! Jenny’s covers are painted works of art, we all know that already, but I’m pretty sure she’s also hiding a pretty insane talent as a clear-line, cartoony artist.
Back to her: “I loved how, on its face, the first issue started like a genuine traditional romance comic. Then it shifted to reveal the cracks in that narrative. I wanted my cover to feel as meta as the book. A genuine, traditional vintage romance cover. But with rips to represent the changing narrative. Each rip shifting eras and genres. With the entire image arranged on top of the cover rather than full bleed to imply it’s all a facade.”
Jenny Frison’s Love Everlasting #1 COVER E is up for pre-order until July 18 with the Diamond Code JUN220028.
Fascination Frison!
My God, Elsa, if I'd been aware you know Jenny Frison, I would have been nicer to you!
Though I hear you're also also in close touch with the artist of The Infinite Loop, so maybe I should have been anyway.
Man, it's incredible seeing the jump from sketch to cover. I want to see her do something in that style
