LOVE EVERLASTING #1 on sale today

456 days. That’s how long ago I laid out the first page of Tom’s and my new series. That’s a looooong time to think about, tweet about, podcast about, substack about a book without getting my, or your mitts for that matter, on an actual copy. That excruciating wait ends today, in the form of nine covers…

Thank you for following along the process these past few months. Feeling you guys’ support helped a ton. Tom, Matt, Clayton, Marla, the whole team at Image Comics and I hope you enjoy the comic.

Tula Lotay’s cover process

We were holding onto the last of our Behind The Love: Cover series entry for today. She was nice enough to send a whole lot of process pictures. I will admit that even with this breakdown, I still don’t quite understand how she goes about a piece, and how in the world she can be so freaking good.

Let’s start with two equally lovely alternate layouts. It’s the first time I’m seeing them! She must have had a good reason for ruling them out but if you ask me, they look HOT.

Below are the inks for the final cover. Now I’m thinking this could have been a killer variant cover. Look at these textures!

Tula sent these screenshots without any explanation (she’s a busy artist AND a mom…I’m surprised she even had time to send the images), so it’s up to me (us!) to figure it out! I don’t use photoshop much so I’m kind of useless but it looks like she uses different layer options to superimpose colors and texture.
